Make a bag - save the planet

The world uses over 1.2 trillion plastic bags each year, which is about 300 bags for each adult on the planet.

On average we use each plastic bag for approximately 12 minutes before disposing of it.

In 2008, the yahoo group BQL (British Quilt List) has issued a challenge to its members to try to make a (fabric) bag each month, as an effort to cut down on the number of plastic bags used - if each member taking up the challenge can make just four bags this year and use them every week, she alone will have saved over 200 plastic bags from being needed every year.

Each month a new bag pattern will be available to those who have completed a bag in the previous month; this blog is a place for sharing photos of those bags.

If you are reading this blog and are not a member of BQL, but would like to be, you can join BQL here, but please note that the bag challenge has now closed to new members.
